Magic Johnson
Earvin “Magic” Johnson is a name synonymous with basketball greatness. A Hall of Fame point guard who dominated the National Basketball Association (NBA) for over a decade, Johnson’s impact on the sport is immeasurable. His exceptional playmaking abilities, court vision, and leadership qualities made him one of the most beloved and respected athletes of his generation.
Beyond his on-court achievements, Johnson has also proven to be a successful entrepreneur and business leader. He has founded and invested in numerous businesses across various industries, demonstrating his versatility and entrepreneurial spirit. Additionally, Johnson served as the president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Lakers, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the team’s strategy and success.
What many don’t know was that when he wasn’t on the court, Magic was a radio disc jockey at Michigan State college. Some say that his favorite song to play was “Distant Lover” by Marvin Gaye. Here’s a photo of Magic Johnson, likely taken around 1985, getting ready to listen to a record on his home Hi-Fi system. His system includes a McIntosh MC2205 power amplifier, McIntosh C34V preamplifier, Nakamichi RX505 cassette deck, and a ReVox B77 reel-to-reel recorder. It’s hard to tell which turntable he is using, but that distinctive “bubble” in the dust cover suggests it was a Technics SL-1200. We also think those are AKG K240 headphones.
