Jimmy Page
Jimmy Page is a legendary English musician and record producer. Born on January 9, 1944, in Heston, Middlesex, England, he is best known as the guitarist and founder of the iconic rock band Led Zeppelin. Page’s innovative guitar playing, which includes a mix of blues, folk, and Eastern music influences, has made him one of the most influential guitarists in rock history.
Before Led Zeppelin, Page was a sought-after session musician in London, playing on records for artists like The Who, The Kinks, and The Yardbirds. He joined The Yardbirds in 1966 and, after their breakup, formed Led Zeppelin in 1968 with Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham. The band achieved massive success with hits like “Stairway to Heaven,” “Whole Lotta Love,” and “Kashmir.”
Page’s career continued after Led Zeppelin, with various musical projects including The Firm, Page and Plant, and solo work. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: once as a member of The Yardbirds and once as a member of Led Zeppelin.
Jimmy Page ‘s “Tower House” and Hi-Fi System
Jimmy Page’s “Tower House” is a historic property located in the Holland Park district of London. Originally built around 1881 by the renowned architect William Burges, the house is a stunning example of French Gothic Revival architecture. It features a distinctive cylindrical tower and conical roof, and is constructed from red brick with Bath stone dressings and green roof slates from Cumbria.
If you’d like to see more photos of the house, check out Alex Telfer’s photographic profile of Jimmy Page here.
There is also an excellent article in the Guardian about the home here.
Jimmy Page’s Hi-Fi System
We have a couple of photos of Jimmy Page in the Tower House with a nice Hi-Fi system, including a McIntosh MC2105 power amplifier and a Luxman C-1000 preamplifier. Unfortunately, we can’t identify the other components, which include a pair of floor standing speakers and a turntable.
We have one more photo of Jimmy cueing up a record on a Thorens 166 turntable. It’s taken from a BBC video in which he explains how he wrote the song “Stairway to Heaven”. Here’s a link to the video.
